Poem for the Poets: National Poetry Month

for five hundred years
the poets lean on my right shoulder
and cry

poets, be quiet
I’m trying to think

for five hundred years
the poets lean on my left shoulder
and keep crying

be quiet, poets
I am trying to think

the poets return to my right shoulder
for five hundred more years
and cry even louder

poets, you are too loud
I am going somewhere else to think
