Gary,

Love it. And "r:brth" is particularly effective.

Meant to tell you how much I liked your story, a man, a family, trees, a river, a bird, a message. Quite a great story.

Tell me sometime something about picture books and how they work. I wrote one years ago. But since I don't draw....

Hey Geof,

Thanks very much for the kind words.

About picture books -- the usual drill is that publishers don't expect you to provide illustrations. Usually they match texts with illustrators (sometimes they have a 'stable' of illustrators that they like to use, sometimes to keep the look of the press, or for other reasons. Many times, the illustrators needs to know something of the guidelines for the press's house style / design look, in which case, it's better to wait anyway. For my picturebooks, I just sent in the texts and they matched me up with illustrators. The same is true for my children's magazine stories. I must say, though, that getting picturebooks published is difficult theses days -- the market has shrunk considerably for many reasons. There are still some published though. One of those big writers' compendiums like Children's Writing and Illustrator's Market would tell you who is accepting work and how they'd like to see it. Some big publishers require that you have an agent, but lots don't.

Which makes me think: a pwoermd anthology or book for kids by you would be very cool.
